cbBlitz.com News and Updates

December 1, 2008

The fantasy playoffs are nearly upon us, with most leagues starting the playoffs either in Week 14 (this week) or 15. As such, I wanted to quickly run through how the playoffs work here at cbBlitz.com.

Who makes the playoffs:
Teams are ranked by the following categories (in order):

  • (# wins)-(# losses)
  • Points scored
  • Points against

In the event that all 3 categories are tied, the site will self-destruct

For standard leagues, the top teams according to the above rankings make the playoffs. For divisional leagues, the division winners get bids, with wild card teams filling out the bracket irrespective of divison.

Playoff format:
As with much of cbBlitz, our playoff system is modeled after the NFL. Teams are seeded according to the ranking described above, with all division winners being ranked ahead of wild card teams. In each round of the playoffs, the highest seeded team plays the lowest seeded; the second highest, the second lowest, and so on. Teams are reseeded after each round.

Consolation Bracket

If your league has a consolation bracket, teams that do not make the main playoffs will still compete in their own bracket according to the same format. For keeper leagues, the winner of the consolation bracket is awarded the first overall pick the following year, with the second place in the consolation getting the second pick and so on. This means that once you are eliminated from championship contention, additional wins improve your draft position next year.

Playoff matchups should be posted shortly for leagues that start in week 14. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment on this post. Good luck to everyone that I'm not playing against in the playoffs.

Just a reminder, there is a Thursday night game each week for the rest of the season.  Only player with games on Thursdays will be locked, but you should try to check your lineups before the Thursday games.

Due to popular demand, we've added injury updates next to the player names so that you can take a glance at your team and know all you need to about who will be playing.

If you look at a team page or the players page, you'll see a smaill red letter next to some players.  This is their reported injury status.  If you mouse over the letter a pop-up will let you know what that letter means (i.e. "D" = "Doubtful").  Please keep in mind that these updates come straight from what the NFL teams report to the league.  Some teams are known for being pretty shady with their injury reporting (What a shock that the Patriots are one of those teams!) so don't take these as the word of god.  If you aren't sure how to interpret the injury status, read some news about the player to get a better idea...

...Speaking of reading news, we should have player news listed next to each player similar to the injury status right now.  This will be coming later this week (hopefully) so stay tuned.

As always, please let me know if you have any requests or bugs to report.

Now that the drafts have started, it's time to get the real functionality deployed.  I just finished enabling dropping and adding players.  Feel free to follow my lead and drop a meaningless player for the Ram's defense just to so you can act like you believe in them during the preseason and then drop them before the regular season starts.

Next up: Trades!  You can expect these to be completed no later than this coming weekend.

As always, please let me know if you've got ideas on how this site could be better.

August 7, 2008

Several of us early adopters have been posting on the blogs and a few people have even started up leagues which is great.  We're finishing up some of the final touches and we've set an official launch date.  On August 18th, this site will be ready to support all normal preseason activities and we'll be ramping up for the start of the actual NFL season.  Here are a few of the things you'll be able to do starting on the 18th:

In case you don't know, you can currently create leagues and invite other users to join them

  • Activate leagues - once you've got all the teams in the league, make sure the settings are right, assign everyone to a division (if you're using divisions) and activate the league to generate the 2008 schedule and initialize everything you'll need to get going.
  • Customize your league home page - The new league home pages will have panels which you can drag and drop to make the screen you'll look at most look exactly how you want it.  We will be adding new panels throughout the season but you can get a head start customizing the look and feel of the site right away.
  • Customize Player Rankings - If you don't like the way we ranked the players, override out settings.  This will help your autodraft pick players more specific to you and change the order the players are shown in the...
  • LIVE DRAFT! - Our newly developed Draft Room application is probably the most exciting part of the preseason.  Enjoy one of the most intuitive draft interface on these here interwebs.
  • Get your team ready for the regular season - Set your lineups, add new players as training camp news comes in, and get an early start on all the trades you'll be masterminding this season.

We're really looking forward to this football season and we hope you'll enjoy it with us on cbBlitz.com.
